Coursing Coordinator
Lady Martine De Burgues (she/her)

Lady Martine de Bruges (she/her)

Martine De Burgues hails from the Middle Kingdom originally, transplanting to Atlantia 2 years ago. She has been involved with raising, training, and showing dogs since 1976 when she showed her first Belgian Sheepdog at the age of 4. Having shown a variety of breeds, her passion is raising quality Belgian Sheepdogs and Cardigan Welsh Corgis.

After moving to Atlantia, and realizing that coursing has been missing from the activities, she decided to bring coursing back to the Kingdom along with starting the “Heckin’ Good Pupper” (Canine Good Citizen) program for the hounds. Through much fundraising (which is always ongoing) Atlantia now has one full coursing kit and is working on a second one for the southern part of the Kingdom.

You can contact Martine at seadogsrun@gmail.com or 309-361-8875 for more information on coursing, HGP, or marshalling.

Coursing Classes & Schedule

Since Coursing is being renewed in the Kingdom of Atlantia (thanks to Lady Martine’s hard work!), at this time all of the coursing activities are planned to be run by Lady Martine. If you have a historic topic on coursing (or generally dogs) that you’d like to teach, or if you would like to be more actively involved in planning/coordinating, please reach out to Lady Martine.

An introduction to coursing that covers the history of coursing and how it applies to the SCA. Find out what requirements are needed for your dog to play the games. Learn about becoming a coursing volunteer or a marshal. It’s a great time to ask all of the questions!

Come start your dog’s journey to becoming an Atlantian Hekkin Good Pupper. Bring your dog and learn the requirements. You will work on the “meet and greet” with other dogs as well as with horses, processing into “court”, as well as basic commands. We will talk about barding for dogs and weather considerations.

This is your opportunity to try coursing your dog! Please see the equipment requirements listed at the top of this page.
